Gachagua Denies Claims He Was Behind Attack on Uhuru's Farm, Shifts Blame to Kimani Ichung’wah

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has denied claims linking him to the 2023 invasion of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Northlands farm, instead pointing an accusing finger at National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.

Speaking during an appearance on the Iko Nini podcast on Friday night, March 27, Gachagua dismissed allegations that he played any role in the incident, insisting he neither made inflammatory remarks nor supported any actions targeting Kenyatta’s property.

The ex-DP maintained that there is no record of him issuing threats or encouraging the invasion, emphasizing that he is a responsible leader who respects private property and does not believe in destruction.

Gachagua instead referenced remarks made by Ichung’wah, where the outspoken Kikuyu MP was captured in 2023 warning Uhuru that his lands would be invaded if he did not stop sponsoring the then-Azimio protests.

According to Gachagua, the invasion occurred about three weeks after those remarks, raising questions about who may have been behind the attack.

The former deputy president claimed that he had already mended ties with the retired President following the heated 2022 campaign period.

According to Gachagua, he had publicly apologized to the former president for earlier remarks he later considered unnecessary and offensive, noting that he respects Uhuru as a senior elder in their community.

Gachagua reiterated that he had no reason to plan or sponsor an attack on Kenyatta’s farm, distancing himself from any form of violence or destruction.

The vast Northlands farm, owned by the family of Kenya’s first president, was invaded during the 2023 protests, where destruction, vandalism, and looting occurred.

Gachagua has faced much of the blame, even from those he was in government with, including Ichung’wah.
