A video of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua taking pills has surfaced online and stirred heated debate across Kenya.
The short clip shows him removing tablets from a container while dressed in a jacket branded with the logo of his new party, the Democracy for Citizens Party. The time and place of the recording are still unclear.
The footage was shared by his former aide Martha Miano, who once served as his Deputy Director of Communications.
She posted it with a cryptic message that hinted at heavy political pressure. Her post quickly spread on social media and triggered mixed reactions from supporters and critics.
Miano and Gachagua have had a public fallout in recent months. She previously denied claims of a close personal relationship and rejected alleged advances during her time in office. Her decision to release the clip is now being viewed by some as part of their ongoing dispute.
The video emerged as Gachagua continued a three day tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties. He is leading opposition leaders in rallies aimed at challenging President William Ruto and his administration. The meetings have drawn large crowds across the Gusii region.
Among those accompanying him are Fred Matiang'i, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua and Eugene Wamalwa. The leaders have been calling for a one term presidency and urging citizens to reject what they describe as failed promises and rising economic hardship.
Tension has marked parts of the tour. Gachagua accused Kisii Governor Simba Arati of trying to disrupt rallies by working with local youths and police. The governor has not publicly responded to the claims.
Supporters of Gachagua say the video is meant to embarrass him at a crucial political moment. They argue that taking medicine is normal and should not be turned into propaganda. Others believe the clip shows the personal toll that political battles can bring.
Online users remain divided. Some expressed concern for his health and urged him to rest. Others questioned the timing of the release as the opposition seeks to build momentum. As the tour ends today the debate over the video continues to grow louder.
