The Kenyan community in Guthrie, Oklahoma, is grieving after a Kenyan man, Mark Kimani, reportedly shot and killed his wife, Meredith, before taking his own life.
The tragedy at their home near Interstate 35 and North Midwest Boulevard shocked local residents and the wider Kenyan diaspora.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the event took place around 6 p.m. when Meredith called 911 asking for help to remove her husband from the house.
During the call, the line went silent, prompting immediate concern. Officers rushed to the scene and found both dead from gunshot wounds. Preliminary findings show Mark shot Meredith several times before turning the weapon on himself.
Another adult male was inside the house but was unharmed and is not considered a suspect. Authorities are treating the case as a murder-suicide and confirmed no ongoing threat to public safety.
Friends and family described Meredith as loving, creative, and hardworking. The Kenyan community in Oklahoma and beyond has expressed condolences and offered support to the grieving family.
The Sheriff’s Office continues investigating the events leading up to the shooting, seeking details that might explain the tragedy. Community members urge families to seek counseling and support to resolve domestic conflicts before they escalate.
