Top ODM Figure Left Confused by What Oburu Said at Ruto's Kisumu Event on Monday

Nyamira Senator Okongo Omogeni has expressed disbelief following ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga's remarks in Kisumu on Monday.

This is after the Siaya Senator disclosed that the party is not pushing for state positions in its ongoing negotiations with the ruling UDA.

Oburu stated that they are not looking for the Deputy President slot in their coalition talks with President William Ruto.

He, at the same time, noted that the party wants as share of the government, not disclosing what exactly they are demanding for.

“We are not going to look for less. But, Deputy President, do not think that we want your seat or that we want to remove you from your position.

You are our friend,” he said while addressing Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

The remark has surprised Omogeni, who is now wondering what share Oburu is talking about if he's not refering to government positions.

Omogeni, himself an ODM member, has stated that this is the kind of confusion that would have shocked even Oburu's father, founding Vice President Jaramogi Oginga, if he were alive.

“If the doyen of opposition politics, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, were alive today, he would hardly believe the position of the ODM Party.

What exactly is Oburu representing if he claims he is not interested in Kindiki’s DP position?” he is quoted by the People Daily.

Oburu took over leadership of the party late last year, following the death of his younger brother and long serving ODM boss, Raila Odinga.

His ascent to the seat, however, has resorted in division within the outfit, with some members openly opposing it's closeness to Ruto.
