Taking Charge: Eugene Wamalwa Details Why He Will Not Support Other Candidates In 2027

Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has officially declared his intention to contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election, signaling a major shift in his political trajectory.

Speaking during a public address, Wamalwa said he had made the decision after years of supporting other leaders, stating that he and his supporters were “tired of being foot soldiers” in Kenya’s political landscape.

He emphasized that the time had come to take charge and offer his own leadership vision to the country.

Wamalwa explained that his decision meant he would no longer back other presidential candidates, arguing that Kenya needed fresh leadership built on unity, accountability, and inclusive development.

He said his move was driven by consultations with supporters and party members across the country.

The DAP-K leader noted that his presidential bid would focus on strengthening institutions, improving the economy, and restoring public trust in leadership.

He added that his campaign would prioritise dialogue and peaceful engagement as the country heads toward the next election cycle.

Political analysts say Wamalwa’s declaration places him among early entrants into the 2027 race and reflects a broader trend of opposition leaders positioning themselves well in advance.

They noted that such early announcements often aim to mobilise grassroots support and shape national debate.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, Wamalwa’s entry is expected to influence alliances and conversations within opposition politics, with observers watching closely to see how the field continues to evolve.
