The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is facing fresh tension after its Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, skipped a key National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
His absence has raised eyebrows, especially as allies of Oburu Odinga are said to be planning moves to push him out of the party’s leadership.
Sources inside ODM reveal that the Oburu camp is unhappy with Sifuna’s style of leadership. They accuse him of being too independent and sometimes clashing with senior figures.
For them, removing Sifuna would open the way for a more loyal figure to take charge of the party’s secretariat.
Sifuna, however, has strong support among many young members of ODM. They see him as a bold voice who speaks openly and defends the party’s position in public debates.
His absence from the NEC meeting is being read by some as a silent protest, while others believe it was a tactical move to avoid direct confrontation.
The tension highlights deeper divisions within ODM as it prepares for future political battles. Party unity is now at stake, with some members calling for dialogue instead of expulsions.
Whether Sifuna survives the push against him will depend on how much support he can rally from both grassroots members and top leaders.
For now, ODM remains in the spotlight, with Kenyans watching closely to see if the party can overcome its internal storm or if the Oburu camp will succeed in reshaping its leadership.
