State House Panic?: Ruto Holds Urgent State House Meeting Amid Western Kenya Political Jitters

Reports emerging from a political intelligence desk claim that an emergency meeting was held at State House following the massive turnout at a recent rally in Busia County.

The gathering is said to have rattled key figures in government, especially after earlier assurances that the event would not attract significant crowds.

According to the reports, the meeting brought together National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, a governor from the Nyanza region, another from Mt. Kenya, and five MPs from Nyanza.

Oburu Odinga was reportedly invited but did not attend.

Sources claim President William Ruto expressed frustration over what he described as mixed signals from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He is said to have questioned how the party could claim to be part of a broad-based arrangement while its secretary general continues to criticize his administration and mobilize rallies linked to the “Wantam” movement.

The president allegedly directed Mudavadi and Wetang’ula to consolidate Western Kenya behind his leadership, warning that failure to do so could see him shift political alliances and accommodate opposition figures instead.

The meeting is also said to have touched on Mt. Kenya politics, with one governor reportedly promised a favorable arrangement in the event of Ruto’s re-election, in exchange for mobilizing support in the region.

Reports further claim that the president is unhappy with divisions within the Odinga family, citing continued criticism from some members despite what he views as political goodwill extended to others.

Following the meeting, Mudavadi and Wetang’ula are expected to return to Western Kenya to strengthen support for the government.

The developments suggest growing tension and shifting calculations within the country’s political landscape.
