Several Invited Murang'a MCAs Skip Ruto's State House Meeting, Visit Wamunyoro To Meet Gachagua

Murang’a Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have alleged that they turned down an invitation to State House after being promised Ksh300,000 each to attend the meeting.

Speaking on Friday, January 2, the MCAs, who were hosted by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accused President William Ruto of encouraging corruption at State House despite his pledges to end graft. Kariara Ward MCA Gichofe Mbatia stated that all Murang’a MCAs had received calls inviting them to Nairobi with the assurance of financial rewards.

“We were all invited to State House and promised Ksh300,000 each. However, we declined because this money is meant for healthcare and school capitation, not bribes,” Mbatia said.

Instead, the MCAs opted to visit Gachagua, whom they described as their leader and the preferred successor to Ruto in 2027.

Gachagua escalated his attacks on Ruto, alleging that State House had become a hub for money laundering and that the President distributed up to Ksh60 million during meetings with leaders. He, however, provided no evidence to back his claims.

Meanwhile, Ruto hosted grassroots leaders from Murang’a at State House, announcing major development projects.

They include 10,300 affordable houses, upgraded roads, new markets, electrification of 10,000 households, student hostels, modern stadiums, and clean water projects across the county.
