Raila Reportedly Didn't Pick ODM Ministers in Ruto's Gov't, Person Who Chose Them Named

It is now emerging that the late Raila Odinga never proposed the names of the ODM bigwigs currently serving in President William Ruto's cabinet.

This is according to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who claims to know what transpired before the group was handed ministerial roles.

Sifuna says the group was not picked by Raila as the government has been alleging, adding that Ruto personally hand-picked them.

According to the politician, who was a close ally of Raila before his demise, the late former Prime Minister actually opposed their appointments.

“Ruto personally persuaded Mbadi, Joho, Wandayi, and Oparanya to join the government; their names were not submitted by the ODM party, contrary to the wishes of the late Raila Odinga,” he claimed on Wednesday, as reported by the People Daily.

He was refering to Cabinet Secretaries, John Mbadi (Treasury), Hassan Joho (Mining), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives).

He says it is after their picking that there was hatched a plan to legitimise Ruto's actions under the narrative of ODM lending experts to the government.

“The day before, I had released a statement saying anyone who joins Ruto is going there in his or her wish. Shortly after, they came to lament to Raila that if he leaves them, so Raila started talking about the idea of ODM lending the government its experts," he further stated.

Sifuna dared anyone with a contrary story to step forward and challenge him, asking the cabinet secretaries to swear that he is being untruthful.
