Renowned constitutional lawyer and political analyst PLO Lumumba has urged Cabinet Secretaries and other government officials to step down if they are unable to perform their duties effectively.
Speaking on a local radio station, Lumumba emphasized that holding a public office comes with responsibilities that cannot be ignored.
He criticized officials who claim their hands are tied due to interference from higher authorities but continue to enjoy the perks of their positions.
According to Lumumba, continuing to occupy a role without the ability to act on its mandate is unfair to the public and undermines the purpose of leadership.
He argued that officials in such situations should formally resign rather than remain in office, benefiting from allowances, status, and recognition while being unable to deliver results.
Lumumba also highlighted the lack of public understanding of the 2010 Constitution, which provides a framework for governance in Kenya.
He noted that many political initiatives, including the BBI, NADCO Report, and the 10-Point Agenda, focus on issues already addressed in the constitution.
This, he said, has led to unnecessary legal and political processes outside the constitutional framework.
In addition, Lumumba criticized the rise of corruption in Kenya, noting that some leaders continue to misuse public resources.
He stressed that leadership positions should be guided by accountability and service to the public, not personal gain or political popularity.
