News In: Ruto Makes Key State Appointments — Here Are the New Appointees

President William Ruto and his Cabinet Secretaries have unveiled a fresh round of appointments and reappointments across various state agencies, signaling a push for continuity and stability in Kenya’s public institutions. 

The appointments were published in the Kenya Gazette notice dated February 13, 2026.

Experienced administrators will retain leadership roles in key regulatory bodies, ensuring policy continuity amid a changing political landscape. 

Ugas Mohamed will continue as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) for another three years, effective February 24, 2026. Sally Njambi Mahihu has also been reappointed as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Investment Authority (KIA), effective February 13.

The Cabinet Secretaries further extended the terms of board members across several agencies. At CMA, five members—Natasha Awuro Aduwo, Elena Natalia Pellegrini, Meshack Moses Kiprono, Gibson Kimani Maina, and Professor Michael Bowen—will serve another three-year term. 

Jack Rangura will continue leading the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) board until February 2029, reinforcing institutional stability.

The agricultural sector also saw reappointments, with Genesio Mugo retaining his role as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Dairy Board. 

Seven board members, including Abraham Kiplel Rugut and Mercy Karimi Mbogo, were reappointed, while Makarios Munanga Makwata joined as a new member.

Other notable appointments include Zippie Metto to the Tourism Fund Board, Rebecca Ghati Maroa to the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), and Professor Mary Akinyi Otieko as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya School of Law (KSL).

At the county level, Josephine Mbena Mwau, Zebedee Mwandi, and Deborah Mutheu Kyalo joined Makueni County Public Service Board for six-year terms, while Pius Kipkorir Kigen was appointed chair of Uasin Gishu County Rural Water and Sanitation Company. Kilifi County and Eldoret City also received new members to strengthen governance structures.

These appointments, aimed at reinforcing leadership and ensuring continuity, will now be forwarded to the National Assembly for approval as per the Kenya Gazette notice.
