"Do That on TV, Not Here" – Cherargei Fires at Sifuna Over Ruto, Sakaja Project Posters

On Tuesday, January 3, 2026, the Senate county public Accounts Committee session took a heated turn as Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei and Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna clashed over public project oversight.

The confrontation unfolded after Sifuna criticized President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Sakaja for prominently displaying their images on government-funded projects.

“Do that on TV, not here!” Cherargei barked in response, his voice echoing across the committee room, signaling rising tension.

The statement came after Sifuna accused the officials of using public funds to boost their political profiles, a claim Cherargei vehemently denied.

The exchange quickly drew attention from both senators and media observers, reflecting the deep partisan divide that often characterizes parliamentary proceedings.

Sifuna argued that public projects should focus on service delivery rather than political promotion.

He emphasized accountability, noting that taxpayers’ money must be transparently managed and that leaders should resist self-promotion using state-funded initiatives.

Cherargei countered by stressing that oversight processes already exist and that the committee session was not the venue for political grandstanding.

The session continued with a more structured review of ongoing projects, though the tension lingered.

Committee members called for a more professional tone during deliberations, urging colleagues to maintain decorum even when disagreements arise.

Analysts suggest that the clash highlights growing scrutiny of politicians’ roles in public projects and raises questions about the intersection of governance and political visibility.

As public interest in accountability intensifies, such debates are likely to continue shaping Kenya’s political discourse.
