Residents of Nairobi and Kiambu should prepare for a wet week after the Kenya Meteorological Department forecast rainfall in several parts of the country over the next few days.
According to the weekly outlook, areas in the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the Rift Valley, the Central Highlands, and sections of the Eastern region are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms between Tuesday and Saturday.
Cities and towns such as Nairobi, Kiambu, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kericho, and Nakuru are likely to receive showers at different times during the week.
The weatherman noted that some regions around Lake Victoria and the Rift Valley may experience heavy rainfall that could last both during the day and at night.
Counties expected to receive steady rains include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Bomet, Kericho, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
Daytime temperatures in these areas will remain moderate, reaching about 32°C, while nights may become chilly, dropping to around 9°C.
In the Central Highlands, including Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Kiambu, afternoon showers are expected on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.
Temperatures in these regions will range between 8°C at night and 32°C during the day.
Nairobi is also expected to experience intermittent rainfall, especially in the afternoons and evenings.
Residents living in flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and plan their travel early to avoid traffic disruptions caused by waterlogged roads.
Meanwhile, southeastern counties such as Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta will experience mostly sunny weather throughout the week.
However, a few areas may receive light showers towards the weekend. Temperatures in these regions will range between 15°C and 33°C.
At the Coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Lamu, the weather will remain hot and dry, with temperatures expected to rise to about 34°C.
Northern counties such as Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, and Isiolo will also remain sunny and very hot, with temperatures likely to reach 38°C.
The weather department has advised the public to take necessary precautions, especially in areas expecting heavy rainfall, to avoid flooding, lightning risks, and travel inconveniences.
