Win For Gachagua As Ex MP Dumps Jubilee To Join DCP Party As Mt Kenya Politics Shift Fast

Hon James Gichuki Mugambi the former Member of Parliament for Othaya has officially joined the Democractly for the citizens Party.Gachagua announced the news on X on Saturday morning.

He said he welcomed Mugambi to DCP after serving with him in the Twelfth Parliament. He added that Mugambi said Othaya residents wanted him in their party of choice.

Photos shared online showed the two leaders together.

The images suggested a warm welcome and a formal entry into the party. Supporters described the moment as symbolic for the region.

The decision comes at a time of shifting alliances in Central Kenya. DCP has been positioning itself as an option for leaders unhappy with UDA. Nyeri County has become a key focus of these changes.

Mugambi served Othaya Constituency from 2017 to 2022. He was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket after winning a tough nomination. He defeated former MP Mary Wambui in that contest.

His election win drew national attention. Mugambi had survived a serious road accident days before the vote.

He was hospitalised during the polls and later sworn in while using a wheelchair.

During his term he remained a Jubilee Party member. Parliamentary records show his affiliation throughout the Twelfth Parliament. He later sought a second term in the 2022 elections.

Mugambi lost the seat to Michael Wambugu Wainaina. Wainaina ran on a UDA ticket during the Kenya Kwanza wave. The result reflected changing political winds in Othaya.

Othaya holds deep political history. It was represented for decades by former President Mwai Kibaki.

Kibaki had earlier endorsed Mugambi as a preferred successor before his eventual win.

Gachagua says DCP is open to progressive leaders. He has framed the party as inclusive and focused on future leadership.

The party continues to recruit from across the Mt Kenya region.Since leaving government Gachagua has worked to build a new base.

He has appealed to leaders who feel sidelined. Several politicians have already crossed over to DCP.

Mugambi entry is expected to boost the party locally. Analysts say it could influence voter views ahead of 2027. The move highlights the fluid nature of politics in Central Kenya.

Observers say his experience and local networks may strengthen mobilisation efforts across Othaya wards during coming campaign season.
