"Mungu Si Kamau" Oguda Revives Gachagua's Controversial Past in Viral Post

Political commentator Gabriel Oguda has reignited debate over former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's tenure with a pointed X post, invoking the phrase "God is not Kamau" to highlight perceived karma in Kenyan politics.

The post, shared on January 31, features a video clip of Gachagua praising police for suppressing protests, reminding viewers of his early morning strategy sessions to counter opposition leader Raila Odinga and his supporters.

In the footage, Gachagua encourages officers to ignore criticism and urges protesters to "keep off the streets" if they wish to avoid confrontation.

He thanks regional commanders for their handling of unrest, framing police action as necessary protection against "criminals."

This stance dates back to 2023-2024 anti-government demonstrations, where security forces faced accusations of excessive force against Azimio coalition demonstrators.

Oguda's caption questions: "Do you remember those days Rigathi Gachagua used to report to his office at 5am to plan how to do bad things to Raila Odinga and his supporters? God is not Kamau."

The idiom, popular in Kenyan discourse, implies divine justice transcends human folly or bias, with "Kamau" symbolizing ordinary, forgetful humanity.

It underscores Gachagua's fall from grace after his 2024 impeachment, amid claims of inciting division.

The post has garnered thousands of views, with reactions split: some applaud Oguda's reminder of past hypocrisies, while others accuse him of tribal politicking.

Gachagua, now a vocal critic of President Ruto's administration, has shifted to advocating for regional equity and exposing neglect, including in North Eastern drought crises.

This exchange highlights Kenya's evolving political landscape, where former allies turn foes, and social media amplifies historical reckonings.

As Gachagua eyes a comeback, such flashbacks could shape public perception.
