Prominent lawyer and political commentator Wahome Thuku has sparked debate after sharing a deeply reflective message about the Jubilee Party’s past struggles and current political standing.
In a social media post that has since gone viral, Thuku reminisced about the turbulent days of 2021–2022.
when Jubilee supporters were branded traitors for standing against William Ruto’s “hustler movement.”
“Every time I see Jubilee supporters in a tent or hall, clad in those red party outfits, my mind goes back to 2021–22 with nostalgia,” Thuku wrote.
He recalled how, during that heated period, members of the once-dominant Jubilee Party were mocked.
Isolated, and vilified for supporting Raila Odinga’s presidential bid under the Azimio coalition.
“We were a hated party, for campaigning against William Samoei Ruto.
The doyen, the chief hustler who went to school without shoes,” Thuku noted.
He added that Jubilee supporters were labeled defenders of the ‘Dynasty’ .
Enemies of the so-called ‘Hustlers,’ a term Ruto used to describe his grassroots base.
The lawyer’s reflection painted a vivid picture of a politically charged era when Jubilee figures were seen as “the black sheep of the mountain”
under the leadership of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Despite the humiliation and ridicule, Thuku observed that many of those same loyalists remain steadfast in the party’s ideals.
“Today, I look at all those Jubilee members
none of them has moved from the mission.
You all escorted Ruto to State House and came back,” he said.
In his parting shot, Thuku issued a cautionary yet humorous warning to the party faithful: “Watch out.
You may escort him again in 2027 and come back.
Or, you may escort someone else and still come back.”
The message has resonated with many Kenyans, who interpreted it as both a jab and a reflection on the cyclical nature of Kenyan politics .
where alliances shift, loyalties endure, and history has a way of repeating itself.
