Ruto Breaks Silence on Ojwang's Murder Case


President William Ruto has announced that justice has been served in the death of late blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang .

Assuring the family that those responsible are now behind bars and can find closure.

Speaking to an international TV station on November 9, 2025, Ruto confirmed that all police officers involved in Ojwang’s death have been arrested .

 Face legal consequences for their actions, reflecting his administration’s commitment to accountability.

Ruto emphasized that while most police officers in Kenya are disciplined, a few rogue elements occasionally tarnish the service’s reputation. 

He insisted that the government acts decisively against any misconduct within the National Police Service.

The president explained that when the government discovered discrepancies in the police’s initial report of Ojwang’s death.

A proper investigation was launched, leading to the interdiction and arrest of the officers responsible for the incident.

Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to maintaining fairness and accountability within the police force.

Emphasizing that Kenya has over 110,000 officers, but any who violate the law will be held accountable without hesitation.

Albert Ojwang died in custody at Nairobi Central Police Station under unclear circumstances.

 Police initially claimed he hit his head while being transported to Mbagathi Hospital, sparking public skepticism and widespread outrage.

Following the controversy, the Inspector-General of Police, Douglas Kanja, interdicted the Officer Commanding the Station .

 All officers on duty the night of Ojwang’s death, allowing the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to conduct a thorough investigation.

Ojwang’s father, Meshack Opiyo, said his son was arrested in Migori for allegedly insulting a senior official online and later transferred to Nairobi, where he died. 

The case ignited nationwide calls for justice and police accountability.

Ruto’s remarks come months after activists and the family accused the police of covering up the death. 

He stressed that the government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that rogue officers face the full force of the law.
