Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence following President William Ruto’s remarks labelling opposition leaders as lacking brains.
Speaking on Sunday, November 16, Gachagua called out Ruto for his “𝘩𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘪” jibe, saying the Head of State not only insulted opposition leaders but also the people of Mbeere North Constituency.
The ex-deputy president said Ruto would learn who truly lacked brains when Mbeere North voters cast their ballots on November 27 to elect their next MP.
According to Gachagua, the President would regret his remarks once the results are announced at midnight.
“You claimed that we lack brains. On 27th, it will become clear whether it is William Ruto or the people of Mbeere North who lack brains,” Gachagua said.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader made the remarks during a church service at ACK Kanyuambora in Mbeere North, Embu County.
Gachagua was accompanied by several united opposition figures, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Mithika Linturi, Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, and Lenny Kivuti.
The leaders were in Embu to campaign for Democratic Party candidate Newton Karish ahead of the November 27 Mbeere North parliamentary by-election.
The ex-DP used the event to respond to comments made by President Ruto during his Ukambani tour last week.
In Mwingi on Thursday, Ruto mocked Gachagua and his opposition colleagues, claiming they had no ideas, no plans, and no mental capacity to offer a meaningful alternative to his administration.
"𝘏𝘢𝘸𝘢 𝘫𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢. 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘩𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘢. 𝘔𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘢. 𝘏𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘪 𝘩𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘢," Ruto said.
President Ruto’s remarks drew criticism from some Kalonzo's allies in Ukambani, who accused the Head of State of disrespecting the Wiper leader in his own backyard.
