President William Ruto on Thursday received a warm welcome from residents of Kitui East when he arrived in the area late in the afternoon for a development tour.
While addressing the crowd from the top of his vehicle, the Head of State mentioned one of the roads whose construction had been launched. Ruto named the road “Kamwongo” and light-heartedly asked the crowd if they knew it.
“Nyinyi mnajua mahali inaitwa Kamwongo?” Ruto asked, prompting the crowd to respond with a loud “Ndiyo!” before one of the youths humorously shouted back, “Mwongo!” - a Swahili word meaning liar.
The President ignored the playful interjection and continued with his speech, going on to list several other roads earmarked for construction in the region.
Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the people of Kitui and the larger Ukambani region benefit from government development projects, regardless of their political affiliation.
He also highlighted various ongoing development programs, promising that his government will continue investing in infrastructure, water, and agriculture across the region.
The President was accompanied by his deputy Kithure Kindiki, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai, among other leaders.
