A family in Nyeri County has been thrown into deep mourning after their five-year-old son, who had been missing for several weeks, was found dead near River Ragati in the Mathira area.

The painful incident has shocked residents and left many people in the community searching for answers over the tragic death of the young boy identified as Travis Wanjohi.

According to family members, Travis disappeared on March 30 while playing outside their home.

His sudden disappearance caused panic among relatives and neighbours, who immediately started searching for him in nearby villages and surrounding areas.

Residents said the young boy was last seen playing near the family compound before he mysteriously vanished without a trace.

Since then, the family had been living in fear and uncertainty as they desperately searched for their missing son.

The family, together with neighbours, village elders and police officers, reportedly carried out daily searches in bushes, farms, rivers and nearby trading centres hoping to find the child alive.

However, after weeks of searching without success, the family’s hopes were shattered after a body believed to be that of Travis was discovered near River Ragati in Mathira.

Residents who found the remains quickly alerted authorities before police officers arrived at the scene to begin investigations.

Witnesses described the scene as disturbing and heartbreaking.

Reports indicate that the body was found in a bad condition, leaving residents shocked and emotional as police officers secured the area.

The incident attracted large crowds of residents who gathered near the scene as officers collected evidence before moving the body to the mortuary.

Speaking after the tragic discovery, the boy’s father, Dickson Nderitu, painfully recalled the difficult weeks the family had gone through while searching for their son.

He said the family had exhausted every possible effort to locate the child, including involving local leaders, police officers and residents, but no information about the boy’s whereabouts was ever found.
