"Iyo Yote?" Amount Of Money A Man Spent To Make A Giant Chapati In An Attempt To Break A World Record

Raymond Kahuma has made headlines for the second time, but not in the way he had hoped. The ambitious Kenyan who set out to make the largest chapati in history has failed in his attempt for the second time, and the price tag of that failure has left many people stunned.

Kahuma spent Ksh 951,831 on the project, a figure that represents a serious financial commitment to a goal he has been pursuing with a level of determination that has earned him both admiration and bewilderment in equal measure from Kenyans online.

The attempt to break the world record for the largest chapati is not a new endeavour for Kahuma.

He has now tried and fallen short twice, and each attempt has come with significant costs in terms of money, materials, time, and the enormous logistical effort required to even attempt something at that scale.

Making a chapati of record-breaking proportions is not simply a matter of scaling up the usual recipe. It requires specially sourced quantities of wheat flour, fat, and water, along with equipment large enough to handle the dough and a cooking surface capable of achieving even heat across what would need to be a truly massive surface area.

Despite spending close to a million shillings on the second attempt, Kahuma was unable to complete the chapati to the standard required to officially claim the world record.

His story has divided Kenyans. Some admire his refusal to give up on an unconventional dream. Others have questioned the wisdom of spending nearly Ksh 1 million on a chapati when that money could fund a business or support a family for months.

Whether Kahuma attempts a third time remains to be seen, but one thing is certain. He is not a man who gives up easily.
