New information has come to light as fresh evidence has been introduced in an ongoing constitutional case contesting Mr. Gachagua’s impeachment as deputy president.
A sworn affidavit submitted to the court by cardiologist Dr. Daniel Gikonyo reveals that President William Ruto personally reached out to him.
According to the doctor, President Ruto called him at midnight to inquire about Gachagua’s health during his hospitalization amid the Senate impeachment proceedings.
Dr. Gikonyo, who provided treatment to Mr. Gachagua at Karen Hospital in Nairobi, stated that he received the president's call on the midnight of October 17, 2024.
The call came in while he was attending to the former deputy president, amidst the ongoing impeachment process.
He informed the court that the head of state requested an update on the patient’s status, and he confirmed that Gachagua had been admitted and was under his care.
This revelation places the president in the timeline of events that transpired on a pivotal day when the Senate advanced with impeachment proceedings against his deputy.
