Gachagua-Kalonzo Out Of 2027 Equation As Details Emerge on Uhuru's Preferred Candidate Flagbearer

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is facing increasing political pressure in the Gusii region as debate grows around Jubilee Party’s push for a six-piece voting strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The plan, which encourages voters to elect leaders from one party across all positions, is shaping into a major political test for Matiang’i as he seeks to strengthen his influence in Kisii and Nyamira counties. 

The impeachment marks the first in the history of Kenya following the ratification of the country’s Constitution in 2010.

The AG further stood by President William Ruto's decision to appoint Prof Kithure Kindiki as the successor of Gachagua, saying that it is the sole responsibility of the president in his role as provided for under the Constitution.

Gachagua, who has been impeached over the allegations of abuse of the Constitution and corruption, has taken legal action in an effort to regain his seat after being stripped of his powers.
