Bullets On Air, KDF Officers Exchange Fire With Alshabaab, 2 Confirmed Dead In Isiolo

Fear and tension gripped residents after a fierce gun battle broke out between Kenya Defence Forces officers and suspected Alshabaab militants in Isiolo County, leaving at least two people dead.

The deadly exchange of fire happened in a remote area near the border routes often used by security officers during patrol operations.

According to early reports from local authorities, heavily armed militants are believed to have ambushed a KDF convoy that was on a routine security mission in the area.

Witnesses said loud gunshots rented the air for several minutes as the two sides engaged in a fierce battle. Residents living nearby fled their homes in panic, fearing the fighting could spread to nearby villages.

Some described the incident as one of the most terrifying moments they had witnessed in recent months.

Security sources revealed that the officers fought back strongly, forcing the attackers to retreat into nearby bushes after suffering heavy resistance.

During the confrontation, two people were confirmed dead, although authorities had not immediately revealed whether the victims were security officers, militants, or civilians caught in the crossfire.

Several vehicles were reportedly damaged during the attack, while security teams later sealed off the area and launched a major operation to pursue the fleeing suspects. Additional security personnel were deployed to reinforce patrols and prevent further attacks.

Local leaders condemned the incident and called for stronger security measures in the region, which has in the past experienced threats linked to Alshabaab militants operating near northern Kenya routes.

They also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to security agencies.

The attack once again highlights the growing security concerns facing some parts of northern Kenya despite ongoing operations against extremist groups. Families in the affected area were left shaken as security officers continued combing the region late into the evening.

Authorities said investigations into the incident are ongoing, and more details are expected to be released after security teams complete their assessment of the scene.
