Arati Alleges That Oburu Odinga Is Unwell as He Declares Fred Matiang'i His Political Project

Simba Arati has sparked fresh political debate after publicly declaring that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is “his project” ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Friday during a visit to console Richard Onyonka following the death of his mother, Teresia Nyaboke, the Kisii Governor revealed that he was among the first leaders to popularize the “Matiang’i for President” narrative in the country.

Arati urged leaders from the Gusii region and beyond to reduce political attacks and insults, cautioning them that politics can change unexpectedly.

According to him, many leaders speaking against others today may still find themselves working together in future political arrangements.

The outspoken governor also alleged that veteran ODM leader Oburu Odinga is currently unwell, adding that he has temporarily taken up the responsibility of helping steer the affairs of the Orange Democratic Movement party in his capacity as Deputy Party Leader.

Despite his praise for Matiang’i, Arati clarified that he remains loyal to the ODM Party, which he described as the largest political movement in Kenya.

He stated that it would not be politically wise for him to openly align himself with Matiang’i at the moment.

At the same time, Arati commended Anthony Kibagendi for showing restraint during recent political disagreements, saying the legislator had avoided engaging in personal attacks against him unlike some other leaders.

The governor also extended an olive branch to Senator Richard Onyonka, expressing his willingness to hold talks and reconcile their political differences.

Arati added that his administration has already restored order and stability in Kisii County after what he termed as previous political chaos.
