The "Tutam" Takeover: Why Hundreds of Riders are Publicly Rejecting the Linda Mwananchi Call Today

A section of boda boda riders in Kisumu has been observed expressing different political chants ahead of a planned “Linda Mwananchi” rally scheduled in the area.

According to local residents, the riders were seen moving through parts of the town while chanting competing political slogans linked to ongoing national discussions.

Some residents said the activity reflected growing political interest among youth groups in the region.

A boda boda rider in Kisumu town, speaking on condition of anonymity, said:

“People are just talking politics on the roads. Everyone has their own side.”

The “Linda Mwananchi” initiative is expected to bring together residents and political leaders to discuss governance, service delivery, and economic issues affecting households.

Organisers of the rally have maintained that the event will proceed as planned, with focus on peaceful participation and public engagement. They have also urged supporters to follow guidelines set for public gatherings.

Kisumu County remains a key political region where public political expression is often visible during major events.

Transport operators, especially boda boda riders, frequently participate in or witness such activities.

The Orange Democratic Movement, led by Raila Odinga, continues to hold strong influence in the region, while leaders such as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have been active in public mobilisation.

Security officials have not reported any incidents linked to the gatherings, and preparations for the rally are ongoing under local oversight.
