“Sack or Arrest Him” – Senator's Fierce Attack on Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi

Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale has thrown down the gauntlet in Kenya’s latest energy scandal, demanding that Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi either face immediate arrest or step down for what he calls gross incompetence.

In a strongly worded statement posted on X the veteran politician and former Ikolomani MP accused Wandayi of failing in his core duty to protect the country from the diversion of condemned fuel worth Sh4 billion into the Kenyan market by three individuals.

Khalwale didn’t mince words.

He knew or ought to have known he wrote pointing out that Wandayi as the ministry’s top leader reporting directly to President William Ruto bears full responsibility.

If the CS was aware of the scheme, Khalwale insists he must be arrested for criminal culpability right away.

If he truly had no clue then he should resign immediately or be sacked for cross incompetence.

The senator made it crystal clear there is no middle ground.

The scandal has already seen arrests including Kenya Pipeline Company boss Joe Sang over allegations of procuring and supplying substandard or adulterated fuel.

Critics say the mess exposes deep cracks in the Energy and Petroleum Ministry where lax oversight allowed condemned product to slip into pumps and tanks across the country.

Ordinary Kenyans are left fuming at the risk of engine damage, health hazards and higher costs at the pump.Khalwale went further warning that if President Ruto drags his feet because of shenanigans of the broad-based government then Parliament must step in.

The National Assembly must exercise its constitutional mandate and impeach him he declared.

The call lands at a tense moment in Kenyan politics where coalition deals often shield ministers from swift accountability.

Supporters of the senator see this as a rare stand for ministerial responsibility in a system too often plagued by blame shifting.

Detractors however wonder if the push is laced with political rivalry.

Either way the pressure is now squarely on State House and the National Assembly.

Will Ruto act decisively to restore public faith in the energy sector or will lawmakers be forced to trigger impeachment proceedings?

As the dust settles one thing is certain Khalwale has lit a fire under the fuel scandal that won’t be easy to put out.

Kenyans are watching closely to see whether this becomes another case of business as usual or a genuine turning point for accountability in government.

The next few days could prove decisive for Wandayi’s future and the credibility of the entire administration.
