Political Showdown: Rigathi Brands Ruto and Ichung’wah as Cowards in Scathing Remarks

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken a bold stance against President William Ruto and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, labeling them as the "biggest political cowards" in the nation amid rising tensions in Kikuyu Constituency.

Gachagua accused them of leveraging state power to quash political expression, asserting that no amount of force would quell what he perceives as an escalating political movement leading up to the 2027 elections.

During a public gathering in Kikuyu, he noted that recent incidents in the area reflected a strong public spirit and defiance.

He stated, “President William Ruto and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah are the biggest political cowards in the country.”

He also emphasized that deploying police, teargas, and live rounds wouldn't dissuade citizens from voicing their political beliefs. “The use of police, live ammunition, and teargas cannot hinder an idea whose time has come,” Gachagua remarked.

He expressed gratitude to the residents of Kikuyu for their bravery during the heightened political turmoil. “You've shown that intimidation from Ruto and Ichung’wah will not affect your decisions regarding 2027,” he added.

Furthermore, Gachagua voiced his belief that President Ruto would only serve a single term and directed pointed comments at Ichung’wah, implying that he would follow Ruto's political path. “President Ruto will be a one-term president, and Kimani Ichung’wah will follow suit,” he said.

As the event wrapped up, Gachagua thanked his supporters for their warm welcome and assured them of ongoing engagement as political dynamics shift.

In light of Gachagua's remarks, some political figures and analysts have called for calm, expressing concern that escalating political tensions could further complicate the landscape as the 2027 elections approach. They highlighted the need for dialogue, respect for institutions, and orderly political competition.

Gachagua's supporters believe his statements reflect a growing discontent among local communities, while critics warn that such rhetoric may exacerbate divisions among leaders.

While security agencies have not released an official comment, they are expected to keep a close watch on the situation as political activities ramp up across various regions in the country.
