One term chants erupted at Karen Hospital as supporters and political leaders gathered to accompany Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi on his discharge on Saturday April 11.
The charged atmosphere made clear that what began as a hospital visit had quickly turned into a bold political statement against President William Ruto's administration.
The chants seeking to deny Ruto a second term broke out as the group dispersed following a press conference by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino who had just finished naming those he alleges were behind the brutal attack on Osotsi.
The energy from Babu's explosive presser appeared to flow directly into the scenes at the hospital.
Leaders and supporters who had come to accompany Osotsi out of the facility joined in the chants as the senator walked out after spending several days receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the April 8 attack at Java House in Western Mall Kisumu.
The moment carried strong symbolic weight coming just hours after Babu had pointed fingers at senior government figures.
Osotsi had been assaulted by a group of more than 15 men while meeting senate office staff at the Kisumu restaurant. CCTV footage of the attack circulated widely and drew condemnation from leaders across political divides.
He was airlifted to Nairobi where he received care at Aga Khan University Hospital before being transferred to Karen Hospital for specialised treatment.
Babu Owino had told the press conference that a man known as Lucas Otieno alias Dogo orchestrated the assault by summoning a gang after spotting the senator at the restaurant.
He named approximately 17 individuals he believes were involved and blamed Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo for financing and organising the goons.
The MP demanded Omollo's resignation and vowed to testify in court while accusing police of handling the suspects with suspicious leniency.
He claimed officers asked the chief goon to simply surrender his boys rather than conducting direct arrests on the ground.
The one term chants at Karen Hospital signal that Linda Mwananchi and its allied leaders intend to convert the anger over the Osotsi attack into political fuel ahead of the 2027 elections.
The movement has been building momentum through nationwide rallies and membership drives since its launch earlier in 2026.
Osotsi had already confirmed from his hospital bed that he would attend the Linda Mwananchi rally in Nakuru on Sunday April 12 urging supporters to turn out in large numbers.
