Leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi faction within ODM have endorsed Siaya Governor James Orengo as the party’s preferred leader, just days after he declared himself the “people’s party leader.”
The endorsement was made during a rally in Luanda, Vihiga County, where Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna openly backed Orengo’s leadership.
Speaking at the event, Osotsi praised Orengo as a capable and experienced statesman, suggesting he is well-suited to guide ODM into its next phase.
Sifuna echoed similar sentiments, referring to Orengo as “our party leader” while addressing the crowd. Supporters at the rally described Orengo as a unifying figure who represents the ideological direction.
In response, Orengo expressed gratitude for the endorsement, calling it both humbling and motivating. He also thanked Vihiga residents for their strong support, saying it signaled renewed momentum for unity and mobilisation within ODM.
The endorsement follows Orengo’s recent criticism of the party’s leadership, where he warned that ODM risks losing its independence.
He emphasized the need to protect the legacy of Raila Odinga and maintain the party’s dominant political position.
