Land of Jesus Christ” Remark Sparks Global Debate After Muhoozi’s Massive Troop Proposal

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has ignited widespread reaction after publicly offering to deploy 100,000 Ugandan soldiers to Israel, describing the mission as one to protect “the land of Jesus Christ.”

The remarks, shared عبر social media, immediately drew attention across East Africa and beyond, raising questions about Uganda’s foreign policy direction and the implications of such a military commitment.

General Muhoozi, the son of President Yoweri Museveni, framed the proposal in religious and ideological terms, a move analysts say departs from conventional diplomatic language.

Security experts note that any foreign troop deployment of that magnitude would require formal state approval and international coordination.

Uganda has historically contributed troops to regional peacekeeping missions under frameworks such as the African Union, but not to bilateral religiously framed operations.

In Israel, officials have not issued any formal response to the statement.

However, the suggestion comes at a time of heightened geopolitical sensitivity in the Middle East, where external military involvement is closely scrutinised.

Within Uganda, the proposal has sparked mixed reactions. Some supporters praised the general’s show of solidarity, particularly among religious communities, while critics warned that such pronouncements risk entangling the country in complex international conflicts.

Regional observers also caution that statements from high-ranking military officials can carry significant diplomatic weight, even when made informally.

They argue that clarity from Kampala will be crucial to prevent misinterpretation or escalation.

As debate intensifies, attention now turns to whether the Ugandan government will formally address the remarks.
