Former DP Gachagua Lashes Out at Mt.Kenya Leaders Over Planned Ruto State House Visit

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sharply criticised a group of Akorino religious leaders from the Mt. Kenya region over their planned visit to State House to meet President William Ruto.

Speaking during a charged address, Gachagua accused the clergy of acting out of personal interest, insisting they do not speak for the wider Mt. Kenya community.

He warned that their move risks sending the wrong message about the region’s position.
He did not hold back in his remarks, saying the leaders should make it clear they are representing themselves and not the people.

He also took direct aim at the President, claiming the meeting reflects a deeper disconnect between the government and the region.

The comments add to the growing strain within Mt. Kenya’s political landscape, where divisions have become more visible in recent months.

Since his impeachment, Gachagua has been vocal in his criticism of the administration, often accusing it of neglecting the region despite its strong support in the last general election.

The Akorino church, known for its unique dress and long-standing presence in central Kenya, now finds itself drawn into the middle of a political standoff. Their visit to State House has raised eyebrows, even as details of what they intend to discuss remain unclear.

Political observers say the latest remarks point to a region increasingly split along political lines, with different leaders trying to assert influence ahead of the next election cycle.

Some have cautioned that such public disagreements could weaken the region’s voice at the national level.

By the time of publication, there had been no official response from State House regarding the claims, leaving the situation open as political temperatures continue to rise.
