Breaking News; Police Investigate Suspected Foul Play After Body of Chinese National Is Found At AFCON Stadium Site

Police in Nairobi have launched investigations after a Chinese national was found dead at the Talanta Sports Stadium construction site in Jamhuri.

The man’s body was discovered inside a toilet block within the stadium compound, which is currently under construction.

Security officers working at the site are said to have been the first to notice something was wrong before raising an alarm.

Reports indicate that the body was found on Tuesday morning by a chef who works under the Chinese management team overseeing the project.

After other workers and security personnel responded, the man was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, doctors confirmed that he was already dead.

Detectives later arrived at the scene and began collecting evidence to help determine what happened.

Although the official cause of death has not yet been established, police noted that the deceased had a minor injury on the right side of his head.

This has raised questions on whether the man died naturally or if foul play could have been involved.

The body has since been moved to Lee Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud stated that investigators are considering two main possibilities: sudden death or death caused by another person.

The incident has caused concern because it is the second death reported at the Talanta Stadium site within a few months.

In late 2025, another worker, 35-year-old Sammy Kyengo, was reported missing while working at the same site.

His body was later found submerged in a concealed water sump beneath the stadium terraces. Investigators said the sump was partly covered, suggesting the body may have been hidden.

Police also noted that Kyengo had visible injuries to his head and neck, and blood was reportedly coming from his mouth and nose. His wife later claimed that he had been stressed due to unpaid wages and had planned to quit after collecting his salary.

The Talanta Sports City Stadium is a major government project expected to host matches during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The stadium is designed to hold 60,000 fans and is also being considered for the opening and closing ceremonies of the tournament, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

Police say investigations are ongoing as they work to establish the truth behind the latest death.
