What's Winnie Real Side? Questions Arise After Winnie Odinga Appears At Oburu Faction Event

Winnie Odinga has joined a key meeting of Orange Democratic Movement delegates in Nairobi that is linked to the faction led by Oburu Oginga. Her presence at the gathering has sparked fresh debate about where she truly stands in the ongoing party disagreements.

The meeting took place on Tuesday March 17 at the offices of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Upper Hill Nairobi. Delegates from all seventeen constituencies in the city attended the strategy session ahead of the party’s planned national meeting.

During the gathering Nairobi ODM chairman George Aladwa introduced Winnie to the delegates. Aladwa praised her leadership potential and described her as an important figure in the party’s future direction.

The meeting mainly focused on strengthening unity within Orange Democratic Movement as members prepare for the Special National Delegates Conference planned for March 27. Leaders also discussed mobilisation and strategies for the coming political season.

Winnie’s appearance quickly attracted attention because she has recently been seen with leaders from another faction within the party. That group has been associated with outspoken Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

Earlier this month she attended events where Sifuna and other leaders spoke against certain decisions made by the party leadership. Her presence at those meetings made many observers believe she supported that side.

She was also seen alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino during several gatherings where leaders criticised aspects of the party’s cooperation with the government.

Because of these past appearances many Kenyans are now questioning whether Winnie is shifting positions. Some observers believe she may be trying to bridge the gap between the two rival groups.

Others say she could be carefully positioning herself as a unifying figure in the party that was once led by her father Raila Odinga.

The political tension within ODM has grown in recent months with leaders from different camps planning separate meetings and accusing each other of betrayal.

With the major party conference drawing closer Winnie’s latest move has added fresh intrigue to the situation. Many political watchers now wait to see whether she will fully align with one side or continue walking a middle path inside the divided party.
