President William Ruto has pledged KSh 520 million for development projects in Siaya County as he praised Health Principal Secretary Frederick Ouma Oluga for his dedication to public service.
The president made the announcement on Sunday, March 8, during a thanksgiving ceremony held at Okela Primary School in Rarieda Sub-county. The event brought together local leaders, residents, and supporters who gathered to celebrate Oluga’s journey and his recent appointment in the Ministry of Health.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ruto described Oluga as a hardworking and focused leader who is helping improve Kenya’s health sector.
“He is one of our best. With a professional like him in charge of medical services, I believe the future of our health sector is bright,” the president told the crowd.
Before joining the government, Oluga served as the Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union. He was widely known for advocating for better health systems in the country.
Ruto also revealed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga recommended Oluga for the position. According to the president, Raila understood Oluga’s capabilities and suggested that he serve in the health department.
The president used the opportunity to highlight several development plans already underway in the region. These include the construction of affordable housing units, markets, youth hostels, and learning institutions such as TVETs and KMTCs.
He said the government has already allocated billions of shillings for housing, markets, and road construction in the area, with more funds expected in the next financial year.
In honour of Oluga’s contribution to the country, Ruto also promised additional support for local projects. He pledged KSh 500 million to expand a water project so that more families in the area can access clean water.
The president further committed KSh 20 million to help rebuild the secondary school where Oluga studied, saying the goal is to inspire and support more young people from the region to serve the country in the future.
