Showdown Looms As Kalonzo And Gachagua Lead Opposition For 5-Day Tour Across This County

As part of a larger opposition effort to bolster grassroots support, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will lead a five-day campaign tour in Makueni County.

The United Alternative Government is in charge of the trip, which starts on March 30, 2026. Tawa, Mbumbuni, Kikima, Mukuyuni, Kilala, and Wote are among the towns and trading hubs in the county that it targets. In order to solve local issues, leaders intend to meet with citizens face-to-face.

The opposition's larger plan to re-engage voters at the local level includes this visit. Before the general election in 2027, the leaders want to hear what the wananchi have to say, gather support, and create momentum.

It is anticipated that Kalonzo, who has deep political ties to the Lower East, will use the tour to increase his power there. The meetings are likely to strengthen his position among local followers, who have long viewed the area as his political stronghold.

Important members of the opposition side include Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Fred Matiang'i. As they get ready for the upcoming election cycle, their coordinated appearances indicate an increasing effort to put up a cohesive front.

The Makueni tour comes after previous engagements in other regions of the nation. The same group visited places including Naivasha, Gilgil, and Nakuru town during protests in Nakuru County in February. Despite bad weather in some places, the sessions drew sizable crowds.

The opposition had previously visited Nyamira County and Kisii County. Building partnerships and extending influence outside of established strongholds were the main goals of these travels.
