ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga has called on party supporters to back ODM candidates in all elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections. She urged voters to support MCA, MP, Women Representative, Senator, Governor, and even the Deputy President slot.
Speaking at the ODM Linda Ground Special Edition meeting in Melelo, Narok County, on March 7, 2026, Wanga said the strategy is meant to strengthen the party’s negotiating power.
She stressed that leaving seats uncontested weakens the party during coalition talks with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Wanga noted that while ODM might leave the Presidential seat to UDA, it will maintain strong influence in its strongholds.
Minority Leader Junet Mohammed supported her, insisting ODM will not surrender any political position. The party plans to contest all levels of government to ensure power-sharing from a strong position.
The “Tunataka Power” campaign pushing for the Deputy President position has heightened political tension.
Analysts say it could affect Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s influence in succession politics. Wanga said the party aims to secure both elective and senior government positions, including Cabinet Secretary slots.
She urged supporters to enter negotiations with leverage. “When you go to the negotiation table with an empty bucket, you will not be given anything,” she said. She emphasized that winning seats at every level ensures ODM can influence governance and coalition outcomes.
On the flooding crisis affecting Nairobi and other counties, Wanga called for coordinated government action. She highlighted the need for climate-resilient infrastructure and community preparedness to protect lives and livelihoods.
Wanga also stressed environmental responsibility, urging citizens and leaders to work together in safeguarding communities. She said collective action is key to managing disasters and ensuring that communities can withstand extreme weather events.
The message reinforces ODM’s strategy to consolidate political power while addressing national challenges. Supporters have been urged to remain united and active in all party initiatives as the 2027 elections approach.
