Raphael Tuju’s Mobile Phones Have Remained Switched Off Since Last Night, Lawyer Paul Confirms

Concern continues to grow over the disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, as his lawyer, Paul Nyamondi-Tuju, addressed the press on Monday at Entim Sidai Hotel in Karen, Nairobi.

The briefing was attended by family friends and former Director of Public Prosecutions PLO Lumumba, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

According to Nyamondi-Tuju, Tuju’s mobile phones have remained switched off since Saturday night—a highly unusual occurrence for the veteran politician, who is known to maintain regular communication.

The family has since filed a missing person report at Karen Police Station, urging authorities and the public to assist in tracing his whereabouts.

Tuju was scheduled to appear on an evening radio show on Saturday, but he failed to show up, raising further alarm. Adding to concerns, his vehicle was discovered abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen, Nairobi.

The car was towed to Karen Police Station, where detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Police confirmed that multiple avenues are being explored, including reviewing CCTV footage from the area, interviewing witnesses, and tracking any potential movements before Tuju vanished.

Family members expressed deep worry, emphasizing that the sudden disappearance is out of character and stressing the need for urgent action.

The case has drawn national attention, with political leaders and citizens alike calling for transparency and swift resolution.

Analysts note that Tuju, a seasoned politician and former Secretary-General of a major party, remains an influential figure in Kenya’s political landscape, which has amplified public interest and concern.

As investigations continue, authorities are appealing to anyone with credible information to come forward. Meanwhile, the family and legal team remain closely involved, demanding clarity and updates on the search efforts.

Photos captured by Edward Kiplimo documented the tense but orderly press briefing, reflecting the seriousness of the unfolding situation.
