ODM Leader Oburu Told to Step Aside and Hand Party Leadership to This Individual if He Is Tired

A fresh wave of debate has emerged within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following remarks by Ruth Odinga regarding the party’s leadership direction.

Speaking during a public engagement, she suggested that long-serving party figure Oburu Oginga should consider stepping aside if he feels fatigued, proposing that leadership be handed to a younger generation.

“If Oburu is tired of ODM leadership, he should leave it to Raila Junior,” she stated, in reference to Raila Odinga Jr., the son of ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Her comments have quickly gained traction, sparking conversations about succession planning and generational transition within one of Kenya’s most influential political parties.

The remarks come at a time when ODM is preparing for key internal activities, including upcoming party meetings expected to shape its future strategy.

With the political landscape gradually heating up, discussions around leadership renewal and youth involvement are becoming more prominent across parties.

Oburu Oginga, a veteran politician and elder statesman, has played a significant role in ODM’s growth and stability over the years.

While he has not publicly responded to the remarks, his supporters have defended his experience, arguing that institutional memory remains crucial for the party’s direction.

On the other hand, a section of ODM supporters has welcomed the idea of giving younger leaders more responsibility. Many believe that involving figures like Raila Junior could help the party connect better with younger voters and adapt to changing political dynamics.

Political observers note that such statements, while controversial, reflect ongoing internal conversations within ODM about balancing experience with fresh perspectives.

As the party moves closer to its National Delegates Conference, all eyes will be on how it navigates these discussions without deepening divisions.

For now, Ruth Odinga’s remarks have added a new layer to the evolving debate on leadership within ODM, highlighting the challenges and opportunities that come with generational change in Kenyan politics.
