Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has finally come out and declared his stance amid the ongoing ODM wrangles.
ODM Party has been facing wrangles since Raila Odinga's demise with one faction led by Oburu supporting Ruto's re-election while another comprising of such leaders as Sifuna, Orengo and Babu Owino fiercely opposed to Ruto's re-election.
Amid all this, one of the long-standing ODM Members Anyang' Nyong'o had been silent leaving a section wondering what his stand is.
Today Anyang' Nyong'o has come out and finally declared his stance. The Kisumu Governor appeared to take a neutral stand, urging the party to go back to basics.
According to Anyang' Nyong'o, Generational contest within ODM should refine and not frighten them.
He appeared to urge Party Leadership not to embrace the contest by young leaders such as Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino who want to take over Party Leadership.
"Generational contest within ODM should refine, not frighten, us. Internal competition is vitality, not decay. A movement that cannot debate cannot think.
One that cannot reproduce leadership cannot reproduce relevance. Young leaders questioning old assumptions is renewal, not rebellion. But generational change must not become amnesia.
The new must study the old. The old must mentor the new. Wisdom must meet energy; experience must embrace Innovation." Reads Nyong'o's statement in part.
He also stressed that ODM must remain a vigilant force. He called on the Party to go back to basics and ensure they continue guarding the Constitution, defending devolution and also nurturing democracy as well as shaping nationalism. In a nutshell, Nyong'o said that ODM should not only seek power but also justify it.
