"My Kids Can't Sleep" Resident's Midnight Rage Against Noisy Church in Tassia Goes Viral

Residents of Tassia, Embakasi East, Nairobi, found themselves divided after a local man took to video to confront a nearby church over persistent late-night noise.

The short clip, which has since gone viral on WhatsApp and social media, shows the frustrated resident standing outside the church well past 11pm, addressing booming amplified preaching and music.

In the footage, the unnamed man explains that he works early morning shifts and has young children who require uninterrupted sleep.

“We live in a city where people pay rent and try to rest. Nights are for sleep, not sermons,” he insists, gesturing at the church’s brightly lit façade.

The video has sparked widespread reactions, with some applauding the resident for standing up for community peace, while others defend the church’s right to worship freely.

Neighbour testimonies suggest the late-night noise is not a one-off occurrence. Many describe evenings turned sleepless by the church’s powerful sound system, noting that Tassia’s dense housing makes the issue worse as sound travels easily between homes.

Several residents confirmed that similar complaints have been made in recent months, highlighting the growing frustration.

Church representatives, however, maintain that spiritual guidance cannot be confined to certain hours.

“Our mission is to bring hope and comfort whenever it is needed,” one official explained, adding that limiting services could affect worshippers seeking divine intervention during the night.

Local authorities have previously received noise complaints in various Nairobi estates, but enforcement challenges persist due to limited resources.

Community leaders are now urging dialogue between the church and affected residents, proposing potential solutions such as earlier service cut-offs or improved soundproofing.
