A Thai bulk carrier burst into flames in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday after being struck by a projectile, forcing most of its crew to abandon ship in one of the most alarming escalations of the Iran war to date.
The Mayuree Naree, controlled by Thailand's Precious Shipping, was hit north of Oman, sparking a fire that triggered crew evacuation procedures.
UK Maritime Trade Operations later confirmed the fire had been extinguished with no environmental impact, and a skeleton crew remained on board.
