Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced a parallel political meeting under the Linda Mwananchi banner, set to take place in Nairobi on Friday, March 27, 2026.
The event will run at Ufungamano House from 9:00 am, on the same day the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) holds its National Delegates Convention (NDC) at Jamhuri Park.
Sifuna’s move adds a new twist to the ongoing tensions within ODM. The Nairobi senator, who is facing internal disputes over his position as Secretary General, appears to be mobilising support outside the official party structures.
His planned meeting has been framed as a people-driven forum, running parallel to the formal NDC.
The announcement comes at a sensitive time for the party. ODM is preparing for a major internal gathering that is expected to shape its future direction.
Party leadership has been pushing for unity as it navigates a transition period following the loss of its long-time leader.
ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga has maintained that only one legitimate NDC exists. She has insisted that the Jamhuri Park meeting follows the party constitution and has been properly convened.
Her position reflects the leadership’s effort to maintain order and prevent fragmentation within the party ranks.
Wanga has also urged Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to attend the official NDC. Both leaders qualify as delegates by virtue of their positions in the party and government. The leadership views their participation as important for party cohesion.
Despite this, Sifuna’s parallel event signals growing divisions. His decision suggests dissatisfaction with how internal processes are being handled.
It also points to a broader struggle over influence and direction within ODM.Meanwhile, let us wait and see what happens next.
