Babu Owino has broken silence after the Linda Mwananchi group announced plans to hold a parallel NDC tomorrow. The outspoken lawmaker shared a short but powerful message on X.
He wrote that the people shall decide and that participation is mandatory. His words quickly drew attention from supporters and critics across the country.
The statement came hours after Edwin Sifuna revealed the venue for the gathering. The Nairobi senator posted a message on X with the word “Kesho”.
He attached a poster that invited supporters to attend what he described as the People’s NDC. The event is expected to bring together delegates and grassroots supporters.
According to the poster the meeting will take place at Ufungamano House along Mamlaka Road. Organisers say delegates will begin arriving from 9:00 am on Friday March 27.
Supporters of the initiative believe the meeting will give ordinary members a chance to speak about the future of the party.
The planned event comes at a tense moment inside the Orange Democratic Movement. The party is currently facing a deep internal dispute. Rival leaders have disagreed over the direction of the movement and who truly speaks for the membership.
While Sifuna’s allies prepare for the People’s NDC another faction is planning its own conference. Leaders aligned with Oburu Odinga have scheduled a separate meeting at Linda Grounds on the same day. The parallel events highlight how divided the party has become.
The confrontation follows a recent ruling by a tribunal that handled the dispute. The panel advised leaders to solve their disagreements through internal party structures. It warned that outside intervention could deepen the conflict and weaken party unity.
Despite that advice both camps appear determined to move forward with their separate gatherings. Supporters of the People’s NDC argue that many grassroots members have been ignored in major decisions. They believe the new meeting will allow the voices of ordinary supporters to be heard.
Babu Owino’s message has now added more energy to the unfolding political drama. His brief statement has been widely shared online. Many supporters interpreted it as a call for strong turnout at the People’s NDC.
Political observers say Friday could become a defining moment for the party. Two meetings on the same day may expose the real strength of each faction. All eyes are now on Nairobi as rival leaders prepare for what could be a major test of influence within the party.
