Senator Samson Cherargei on Tuesday caused laughter and excitement during a Senate Public Accounts Committee meeting after making remarks about Kisumu Senator Tom Kajwang’s political future.
While the committee was in session, the Nandi Senator turned to Kajwang and claimed that he could become a Cabinet Secretary after the 2027 General Election.
Cherargei linked this possibility to the decision by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to work with President William Ruto’s government.
He said that since ODM had joined the government, some of its leaders could benefit from appointments in the future.
Cherargei went on to warn Senator Kajwang to be careful with his political moves, especially in his association with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
He claimed that Sifuna could easily put Kajwang in trouble politically and harm his future interests.
According to Cherargei, the kind of statements and alliances leaders make now could affect their chances of getting government positions later.
The remarks were met with cheers and laughter from senators present, briefly lightening the mood of the committee meeting, which is usually serious and focused on accountability issues.
Some senators appeared amused, while others listened closely as the comments touched on the sensitive issue of ODM’s cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza government.
Senator Kajwang responded calmly and appeared unbothered by the remarks, treating them as political talk.
Senator Sifuna, on the other hand, remained silent during the exchange.
Cherargei is known for his bold and outspoken style in Parliament and often makes strong comments about opposition leaders who have moved closer to the government.
His statements during the meeting highlighted the changing political situation in the country as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
The exchange added a political moment to the committee session, showing that Kenyan politics often finds its way even into formal parliamentary meetings.
