“You Left Many Mt Kenya Orphans in Gov't” – Moses Kuria Sends Scathing Warning to Gachagua Following His Recent Interview

Former presidential economic adviser Moses Kuria has launched a sharp response to remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his television interview on Kiririmbi.

Kuria, posting on his X account, said he had listened keenly to Gachagua’s interview and felt compelled to speak out on what he termed as unfair and divisive messaging.

At the centre of Kuria’s criticism was Gachagua’s reported push for Douglas Kanja to serve specifically as the Nyeri Inspector General of Police, rather than as the IG for the entire Republic of Kenya.

Kuria argued that such demands undermine national institutions and promote ethnic entitlement, warning that public offices should never be viewed through a regional or tribal lens.

In his remarks, Kuria said it was wrong to personalise national roles or suggest that senior government officials should primarily serve their home regions instead of the country as a whole.

He noted that this was not an isolated incident, but part of a broader pattern he has observed since Gachagua exited government.

Kuria accused Gachagua of leaving behind what he described as “many Mt Kenya orphans in government” after retreating to Wamunyoro, his rural base, and disengaging from those still serving in public office.

In a striking statement, Kuria said he had “adopted them all,” portraying himself as a unifying figure for Mt Kenya leaders and technocrats who remain within government structures.

He cautioned Gachagua against what he described as criminalising Mt Kenya individuals who continue to work with the current administration.

According to Kuria, disagreeing politically should not translate into branding loyal public servants as traitors to the region.

He urged Gachagua to recognise that many Mt Kenya professionals in government are serving Kenya, not personal political interests.

Kuria concluded by appealing for restraint, warning that politics driven by bitterness and exclusion only deepens divisions.

His comments come a day after Gachagua’s TV interview, adding a new layer to the growing public rift among Mt Kenya leaders as the 2027 political landscape continues to take shape.

  1. Moses Kuria is right in his view of Gachaghua. Gachaghua is not a nationalist at all; ha fails to understand that Kikuyus are serving all over Kenya and are living well with the rest of Kenyans.
