"You Can't Chase Me From N.A &Yet You' Were Beaten By Wife, You Must Go" ODM MP Tells Wetangula

Speaking before a charged crowd, MP Kibagendi criticised the Speaker in remarks that have since sparked national debate.

In a statement widely shared on social media, the MP claimed that a leader who is “beaten by his wife” cannot expel him from Parliament or preside over more than 400 lawmakers. He further declared that he was ready for a political confrontation, saying, “Mimi niko tayari kwa vita.”

The comments have drawn sharp reactions from leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration, who have termed the remarks as disrespectful and demeaning to the office of the Speaker.

Several MPs have indicated that the matter could be referred to the National Assembly’s Powers and Privileges Committee for consideration.

Under parliamentary rules, members are required to uphold the dignity and integrity of the House. Conduct deemed to bring Parliament into disrepute can attract sanctions ranging from suspension to other disciplinary measures, depending on the findings of the committee.

Allies of Wetang’ula have maintained that the Speaker’s office must be respected regardless of political differences. They argue that personal attacks undermine democratic debate and lower the standards of public discourse.

However, a section of opposition leaders has defended Kibagendi, describing his remarks as political expression made in the heat of the moment during a rally.

The unfolding dispute sets the stage for heightened political tensions within Parliament, as attention now shifts to whether formal proceedings will be initiated against the outspoken legislator.
