The wife of a slain bodaboda leader has broken her silence following her husband’s death during tensions surrounding a political rally linked to Edwin Sifuna, calling for justice and a transparent investigation into what really happened.
Speaking to local media, the widow said her husband left home early that morning to attend to his normal work duties and later joined a crowd near the rally venue.
She said he had no history of violence and was known in the area as a calm and hardworking man who supported his family through bodaboda business.
According to her account, confusion erupted after confrontations between groups of youths and security officers near the rally grounds.
She said her husband was caught in the chaos and later found with serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“I only want the truth about how he died,” she said, urging authorities to question witnesses, review footage, and ensure those responsible are held accountable if wrongdoing is confirmed. She also appealed to political leaders to avoid statements that could inflame tensions while investigations are ongoing.
Police have confirmed that an inquiry has been opened into the incident. Officers said they are collecting statements from witnesses and reviewing evidence from the scene.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and allow due process to take place.
Leaders from different political sides have expressed sympathy to the family while calling for restraint among supporters. Some activists have demanded independent oversight to ensure the investigation is fair and credible.
Community members in the area described the deceased as a respected rider who often helped colleagues in times of need. Fellow bodaboda operators have organised small fundraisers to support his family during the difficult period.
The tragedy has renewed debate about crowd safety and political gatherings in the country. Analysts say stronger planning, clear communication, and cooperation between organisers and police are necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As investigations continue, the family says their only wish is to know what truly happened and to see justice done through lawful means.
