Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has today slammed President William Ruto and his allies during a political rally in Keroka, Kisii County.
Speaking to a large crowd, Matiang’i said the opposition has kept quiet for a long time even as their meetings were disturbed.
He claimed that some leaders close to President Ruto have been sending goons to disrupt their rallies. According to him, this has happened several times in different parts of the country.
“We have been patient enough,” Matiang’i told the cheering supporters. “We have allowed them to disturb our meetings, but now we are tired. If they try that nonsense again, they will face it rough.”
He said every Kenyan has a right to hold a rally anywhere in the country. He added that the Constitution allows freedom of assembly and no one should be stopped from speaking to citizens. Matiang’i warned that blocking political meetings is wrong and goes against democracy.
The former CS also called on security officers to do their work fairly. He said police should not take sides in politics but should protect all leaders and citizens equally.
His strong words come at a time when political activities are increasing across the country. Leaders are moving around to meet supporters as they prepare for the 2027 General Election. Tension between the government and the opposition has been rising in recent weeks.
In Keroka, the crowd cheered loudly as Matiang’i promised to defend their rights. He urged his supporters to remain peaceful but firm.
The rally shows that the political contest between President Ruto’s camp and his rivals is becoming more intense as the country moves closer to the next election.
