"Thank You Fred Matiang'i For Being A Real Man" Moses Kuria Says After What Happened in Kigumo

MP Moses Kuria expressed renewed faith in Kenya's potential after reaching out to Sabina Chege following an incident at a burial in Kigumo, Murang'a County.

On February 6, 2026, Chege, the Murang'a Woman Representative, faced what Kuria described as emotional violence from supporters associated with the Democratic Coalition Party (DCP) brigade during the funeral of Hon Jamleck Kamau's mother.

In a late-night post, Kuria said he contacted Chege to offer solidarity over the public humiliation she endured.

He revealed that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i had personally called her to apologize and clarify that he does not endorse such tactics.

Kuria praised Matiang'i, stating, "Thank you Fred for being a real man," and highlighted his principled stand against using emotional distress in politics.

Kuria emphasized that emotional violence equates to physical violence in its harm, arguing that those who engage in it forfeit the moral ground to protest when similar or harsher responses come their way.

He condemned the approach as lacking basis and urged restraint, noting that funerals should remain spaces for mourning rather than political confrontations.

The incident unfolded amid heightened political tensions in Murang'a, where opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Matiang'i, attended the burial.

Reports indicate Chege was mocked or trolled by some attendees, prompting her discomfort and near departure from the event.

The episode reflects ongoing rivalries within regional politics, particularly involving alignments around DCP and other factions.

Kuria's statement, which garnered significant attention online, underscores calls for civility in public life and condemns tactics that exploit personal grief for political gain.

He framed the apology from Matiang'i as a positive step toward maturity in leadership, reinforcing his belief in the nation's capacity for better conduct.
